Grandparent Day and Book Fair Info
On Monday, October 20, we will be celebrating Grandparent Day from 8:25 a.m. through 1:00 p.m. Grandparents may spend as much or as little time as they wish in their grandchildren’s classes and join their grandchildren at lunch. (A complimentary barbeque lunch will be provided for the grandparents.) Grandparents are invited (if they wish) to begin the day with a coffee break from 8:25 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. in Berg Hall. Following the coffee break, grandparents may visit their grandchildren’s classrooms, and then go with their grandchildren to lunch. Grandparents may leave after the lunch or stay in the lunchroom to eat with their other grandchildren (if they have other grandchildren at other lunch periods). On this day we will be using the altered lunch and recess schedule, which is printed below.

Volunteer workers for this event are reminded to park in the Second Presbyterian Church parking lot as far from the Presbyterian Church’s entrance as possible. Parents are requested to tell grandparents who are ambulatory to park on the streets or in the parking lot on the west side of St. Joseph Church. This will save space in the parking lot between our school and St. Joseph Church for those grandparents who have difficulty in walking. For more detailed information, please refer to the grandparent letter sent home in the first brown envelope.

PRESCHOOL INFORMATION
CLASS TIMES
The time for the morning class at the pre-school campus is 8:45 a.m. to 11:15 p.m.; while the time for the afternoon class at is 12:15 p.m. to 2:45 p.m. For the safety of the children, a staff member is ready to greet the pre-school children ten minutes before the actual start of each session. A $5.00 late fee is charged in the event that a child is not picked up ten minutes or more past the dismissal time.
SAFETY AT PICK-UP AND DROP-OFF TIMES
When driving your child(ren) to and from the pre-school campus, please remember the following:
- Enter St. Thomas by the second driveway off of Pearl City Road.
- Park your car (do not park in a handicapped parking space) and walk your child to the sidewalk. If the weather is inclement (raining, snowing, very cold, etc.), you are invited to walk your child to the entrance of the pre-school, or bring your child to the classroom, but no earlier than ten minutes before the actual start of the class. Please be extra careful on these inclement days. Park your car properly and do not dash through the parking lot. Leave St. Thomas by the first driveway off of Pearl City Road.
- At pick-up, park your car and walk over and meet your child. Staff members walk the students out of the building to where the parking lot begins. On days when it is raining, the students will be dismissed from the main doors of the church under the canopy and you may drive up there to get your child.
- Please inform substitute drivers of the above two rules.
PRESCHOOL TUITION
The first preschool tuition payment is due September 15th. To save the school expense, statements will not be sent each month. Please mark your calendar indicating that pre-school tuition is due on the 15th of the month through May 2008. A $5.00 late fee will be added if the fee is delinquent. Preschool fees are separate from other Aquin tuition fees. Please make a separate check for your pre-school fees made payable to Aquin Catholic Schools. Payments may:
- be given to the preschool teacher
- be mailed to the Aquin Elementary School, 202 West Pleasant Street, Freeport, IL 61032
- be sent in the Aquin Elementary School "Brown Envelope"
NECESSARY DOCUMENTS
To maintain our state recognition, we must follow state guidelines. Therefore, new families to our pre-school must turn in their child's birth certificate--the one obtained from the county seat where their child was born. In addition, first time preschool students must have received a school physical. A copy of their child’s physical examination and immunization records must be submitted to school by the first day of school. Don’t forget to fill out the parent/guardian section and sign the health record form.
BROWN ENVELOPE SYSTEM
It is important you know about our “brown envelope system.” Please refer to the other newsletter regarding information on this system.
WRITTEN NOTES
Whenever possible, please send written notes with your child(ren) if transportation arrangements change, if they need to leave early, if your family will be gone for an extended time, etc. Make sure to tell your child to give the note to his/her teacher.
PHONE CALLS
Because the preschool does not have a school secretary, parents are asked to phone the elementary campus at 232-6416 with any messages, etc. Please be sure to phone if your child will be absent. Messages received at the elementary campus will be relayed to the preschool campus. This plan will keep classroom interruptions to a minimum. If you have any questions, do not hesitate to call the school office.
Sincerely,
David R. Hawkinson
