Junior high students:
-Wednesday and Thursday . 7:25am-12:35pm . No bussing home.
-Friday . 8:00am-12:15pm . No bussing at all.
-There will be no bus service after school on Wednesday and Thursday and no bussing at all on Friday.
-There will be cafeteria service on Wednesday (Bosco Sticks) and Thursday (Hot Pockets)
· All students must attend the Ring Ceremony (dress-up day code).
High school students:
· Report to your first scheduled class of the day.

December 2008
-Aquin choir members participated in Freeport’s downtown “Mistletoe Walk” on November 23rd and sang at the FHN Open House.
-Illinois State Scholars: Bobby Bauch, Cody Gallagher, Michelle Gogel, Rachel Hartman, Jessica Martin, Nicole Plum, and Andy Wilson.
-Don Manzullo Workshop: Erin Thill, Courtney Gaulrapp, and Chase York attended the annual Don Manzullo Workshop in Rockford with student leaders from other schools.
-Prudential Spirit of Community Award: Aquin’s nominee is Bobby Bauch.
-The Sunrise Rotary and Noon Rotary have invited Aquin student leaders to attend their meetings once a month. Eric Harweger, Ashley Thompson, Michelle Gogel, and Jessica Martin attended in November. Ryan Altfillisch, Jordan Pontius, Rachel Hartman, and Nicole Plum attended in December.
-9th graders earned a “jeans day” and free ice cream to acknowledge the fact that no freshman was on the “D/F” grade list during the first quarter!
-Athletic Recognition:
All-Conference ( * = unanimous)
Golf: 1st Team: *Chad Bald; 2nd Team: Zach Martin; H.M.: Ben Welser.
Volleyball: 1st Team: Erin Thill; 2nd Team: Courtney Gaulrapp; H.M.: Michelle Gogel and Nicole Plum.
Football: 1st Team: *Aaron Schmelzle and Cody Gallagher; H.M.: Eric Harweger, Dan Hauser, Ben Heiler, and Brodie Myers.
-Named to all-tournament volleyball teams were Erin Thill (Oregon and Stillman Valley) and Courtney Gaulrapp (Oregon).
-Art students painted a Christmas window at Bocker Auto. Please view the artwork there and VOTE for your favorite (Aquin!) – 1st place $600; 2nd place $400! One vote per visit but you may vote as often as you wish! Deadline for voting: Dec. 21.
-Festival of Trees: Aquin students set up the trees and decorated one of them (“Hats Off to Service” theme). Trees are at the public library – please go there and VOTE for your favorite (Aquin!). People’s choice award is $500! Deadline for voting: Dec. 19.
-Interact sponsored a food drive for FACC; goal was 2,000 cans per class (14,000). Total collected: 20,906!!

Since 2003, the Aquin Catholic School Junior-Senior High Canned Food Drive has put 99,234 items on FACC's shelves.
Thank you, parents, for your support!
-Interact members also prepared 23 Thanksgiving baskets for needy families and will provide Christmas gifts for Head Start children.
-Jingle Bell Run: Aquin entered three teams in the Jingle Bell Run (arthritis research), raising over $2,179!

Student Handbook Summary 2008–2009
School Day: 7:25 a.m. – 2:22 p.m.
Absence: Parent must phone the office by 8:00 a.m. (each day) for an absence to be marked “excused.” · The school determines if an absence is “excused” or “unexcused” (student does not receive credit for academic work with an unexcused absence).
· Tardies: Definition: not present at school/in class by designated time. Consequence: detention(s).
· Appointments: Present parent’s written permission by 8:00 a.m.; student receives an Exit Slip that must be signed by place of appointment and returned to the Student Office.
· College visit: Present parent’s written request two days in advance of the visit; return college verification to the Student Office (limit of 3 during 11th/12th grades).
· Request for assignments: use Teacher Ease; after four days may request through Student Office. · More than five absences in a school quarter may be considered unexcused.
After School: Students must leave school by 3:15 p.m. unless they are attending a supervised activity.
Cell Phones:must be kept in lockers or cars during the school day EXCEPT at lunchtime in the cafeteria for TEXT only. Consequence: confiscation and fine.
Detentions: (may involve work assignment)
· School week detentions are 45 and 60 minutes ((usually on Tuesdays and Thursdays). · Saturday detentions (7:30 a.m. – 11:30 a.m.), assigned in increments of 60 minutes per infraction.
· Student must be in regular dress code, report on time, and use the time to work in service for the school.
Dress Code: Following the dress code as written demonstrates maturity and integrity. Suggestion: keep extra belt, tie, etc. in locker; Students will not be allowed to return home to change clothes.
· Dress code is required from the time students enter the building until they leave the building.
· Males may not wear hats inside school during the regular school day and/or when attending an event where hats are inappropriate.
· Boys’ hair: above collar and ear.
Driving Privilege:
· Parking lot use is a privilege; students are expected to drive carefully and respectfully.
Electronics: No music devices during the school day; no games on calculators.
Food: May be eaten in cafeteria ONLY; may NOT have commercial food brought to school for lunch.
· Students may have commercial water bottles (kept capped); appropriate disposal is required (recycling).
· High School Snack Time: healthy food choice during first 5 minutes of 4th Period ONLY.
Halls: Students are expected to be quiet and orderly during passing time.
Planners: Students must have planners in their possession at all times during the school day.
Gum: No chomping/obvious chewing; MAY NOT HAVE GUM DURING MASS; proper disposal.
